We handle every detail of your move with care and precision, whether you’re settling into a waterfront property, a quiet cul-de-sac, or anywhere in between in Bay Colony.
Marathon Moving Services has been serving Virginia Beach residents since 2019. We are a family-owned, fully licensed and insured company with over a decade of combined moving experience across Hampton Roads. Bay Colony is one of the most distinctive neighborhoods we serve, and one of the ones we get called to most often for high-value residential moves.
The median home price in Bay Colony sits well above $1.7 million. The homes are large, many are multi-story, and the lots they sit on can be sprawling. A move here requires a team that takes extra care with premium flooring, wide staircases, custom woodwork, and the kinds of large, heavy pieces that come with homes of this caliber. We use furniture pads, floor runners, and door frame protectors on every single job regardless of home size. Nothing gets dragged and nothing gets rushed.
If you want to understand what sets a careful, professional crew apart from one that just shows up with a truck, our breakdown of what moving companies in Virginia Beach must meet to get licensed is worth a read before you book anyone.
Bay Colony sits on a peninsula that juts into Linkhorn Bay, just two miles from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. The neighborhood has about 620 homes tucked behind the Princess Anne Country Club and the historic Cavalier Hotel. There are no sidewalks, the streets curve and branch in ways that can genuinely confuse a first-time driver, and many homes have long private driveways or waterfront access with docks on the bay side.
For a moving crew, this means a few things. First, you have to know which streets can handle a full-size truck and which require a smaller vehicle or a staged approach. Second, homes with rear bay access and long driveways need a plan for where to position the truck so the carry distance stays short and the risk of lawn or landscaping damage stays zero. Third, many Bay Colony homes have tall ceilings, curved staircases, and oversized doorways that require specific rigging techniques for large furniture and artwork.
We handle all of this as a matter of routine. When you call us, we ask the right questions upfront so there are no surprises when we arrive.
One of Virginia Beach's most prestigious and historic addresses, Bay Colony offers waterfront living, tight-knit community traditions, and a rare coastal character that residents protect fiercely.
Bay Colony, officially known as Bay Colony-Cavalier Park, sits on a peninsula that extends into Linkhorn Bay on Virginia Beach's North End. Despite being just two miles from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and Boardwalk, it feels removed from the summer crowds entirely. Tree-lined streets, no sidewalks, and large private lots create a country-like atmosphere that is genuinely rare this close to the coast anywhere on the East Coast.
The neighborhood holds around 620 homes ranging from older ranch-style houses and stately colonials to multi-million dollar waterfront estates on Linkhorn Bay. Many homes have private docks with deep water access connecting to Broad Bay and out to the Chesapeake Bay.

Bay Colony is one of a small number of neighborhoods in the country where you can own a luxury home on large, wooded acreage and still bike to the beach. The combination of privacy, water access, and proximity to Virginia Beach's main attractions is what keeps residents here for decades.
Home prices in Bay Colony begin around $500,000 for non-waterfront properties and climb well into the millions for bay-front estates. On average, homes here sell in about 27 days, which reflects how consistently strong demand is in this community.
Planning your move here? Our movers are experienced with Bay Colony's long private driveways, bay-side access points, and large multi-story homes. We protect floors, trim, and everything in between on every job.
Bay Colony is an active, close-knit neighborhood that maintains community traditions year-round. The Cavalier Park and Bay Colony Civic League organizes events that have become fixtures in the neighborhood calendar and bring residents together across generations.
The Cavalier Park and Bay Colony Civic League is the organizing body behind many of these traditions and actively maintains the neighborhood's standards and community character. Membership gives residents a voice in local decisions and access to neighborhood communications.
For families moving in, the social calendar makes it easy to become part of the community quickly. Bay Colony has a median age of 44 and a mix of long-term families, retirees, and newer arrivals, creating a genuine cross-generational neighborhood culture.
Moving in summer? Shore Drive sees heavier traffic during the summer months. We recommend scheduling your Bay Colony move on a weekday in spring or fall for the smoothest experience. We can help you plan the right date.
Bay Colony's history stretches back further than most Virginia Beach residents realize. A Spanish expedition map from 1570 documents an inlet near Crystal Lake, and some historians believe the first English explorer of this coastline, Sir Ralph Lane, came ashore somewhere along Crystal Lake on April 26, 1607.
Prior to 1950, the area was largely undeveloped. The oldest known home was built in 1845 on Linkhorn Bay by a farmer named Richardson. Development began in earnest in the 1930s when Norfolk attorney Hugh Davis purchased the property and opened it as the Bay Colony Club in 1937. The original homes along South and North Bay Shore Drive were built by some of the region's most prominent families, including executives, investors, and civic leaders from Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
Today the neighborhood carries that legacy in its architecture, street layout, and community culture. The 620 homes are an eclectic mix of the original ranch and colonial structures and newer construction, including waterfront estates that sit on the same land those founding families first developed nearly a century ago.
